Lambskin is one of the thinnest, softest, and most flexible leathers on the market today. This makes lambskin extremely popular. This is naturally beautiful with the natural characteristics that make it appealing to men, women, and children around the world. This is a high grade of leather.
Sheepskin is the warmest leather available on the market today. Generally, the sheep is skinned with the wool still attached. Then, you are given a sheepskin jacket where the wool is on the inside making a superb liner, and the leather is on the outside giving a naturally beautiful piece of leather. This can be reversible as well.
Shearling is similar to sheepskin except that the sheep is slaughtered at a much younger age. This means that the shearling is lightweight and extremely popular, but this still gives the same level of warmth as the sheepskin. Extremely popular in colder climates where the additional warmth is a necessity.
Cowhide comes in a variety of qualities ranging fro high quality to low quality. Cowhide has a lot more defects in the natural characteristics which makes it a perfect material for jackets of a wide range of prices. Cowhide leather jackets tend to form to the wearer over time making it truly a one-person piece of apparel.
Pig leather is not an extremely aesthetically pleasing grain of leather. However, pig skin does make an appealing suede. This is usually lower quality and value based making for cheap leather jacket prices to be a viable option. However, sometimes you have to remember you do get what you pay for.
There are, obviously, a variety of other popular animals that can be made into leather – rattlesnakes, deer, buffalo, beaver, and other animals.
