The advantages and disadvantages of wearing a nursing scrub

Traditionally, nurses wore an apron. Traditional nurse’s uniforms consisted of a dress, a pinafore apron and a nurse’s cap. In many hospitals, student nurses were also seen wearing a cobbler style apron or a nursing pin in place of a pinafore apron. This style of a nurse’s dress is still worn in less developed societies of the world.

The changes I the nurses dress have pervaded the North American countries and western European countries Very often when the scrub dress is being referred to it is called as ‘new’ , within quotation marks. The scrub dress is the new dress worn by nurses. Most hospitals In the USA and Europe it is argued that traditional nurse’s uniforms are not as easy to clean as scrubs. The scrubs are more easily manageable and easier to clean. White as a color is not as easy to maintain as are dark colors or colorful dresses. This makes scrubs easier to maintain.  Some of the nurses who wear the new scrub disliked the old nurse’s uniforms. The nurses who wear the old uniform argue that nurses who wear the scrubs are looked upon by the patients as cleaners and cannot be identified as nurses. These are common arguments for and against the use of scrubs instead of the traditional nurse’s dresses.

In many parts of the world, nurses still wear the traditional uniform consisting of a dress, apron and cap. A nursing scrub is a more colorful option than a traditional nursing dress. Colorful dresses also serve amore psychological effect. The color of the dress brings down the level of starkness in the color white which is traditionally worn in a hospital and similar places. Colorful dresses or brightly colored dresses add a touch of enthusiasm to the moods of the patients who are ill and that is why staying in a hospital.

The nursing scrubs also look into the hygiene. The traditional attire consisting of apron and pinafore and cap also has a consideration of the hygiene.  Modern nursing dresses include a tunic style top and dark blue trouser the color of which depends on the grade of the nurse. The tunic often features piping round the edge of the uniform. There is also a dress of the same color as the color of the top tunic. A white tunic is worn by male nurses which also has epaulettes in their work grade color. A scrub dress is a simpler type of uniform. It ideally consists of a pair of trousers with a top worn over them. The scrub dresses are commonly worn in operating rooms. For outdoor clothing, red jacket is worn over the indoor nurse uniform. While the third world countries still stick to the traditional uniforms, North America and Western Europe has sent the scrub dress get more popular. There is an ongoing argument about the comparative advantages of the scrub dress over the traditional nursing dresses and the debate continues. Scrub dresses are gaining in popularity.
